It’s gzipped to reduce pageload time. I think github pages also supports it.

Just try. Otherwise you can disable it in the Unity Build Window
for the index.html it doesnt reduce much but the javascript bundles in assets get way smaller
For anyone coming across this: it is a bug in the particles system library (particles render fine but the error shows up in the dev environment)
