WebXR - AR image tracking sample not working + more

If image tracking works, it’ll open alot of avenues for my project, currently I’m studying repair cultures and manufacturing hurdles for my Pre-thesis - this could be a great medium to share a more interactive representation of my research

Just to be on the same page, this is the placement marker

I see that, I have tried running the AR multiple times and seen a it only a few times, definitely had best results in more neutral white lighting

I’ll test it out more on the weekend to see how can I improve tracking

Probably will add some marking on a white floor and see if it adds up

Recommend trying it again in the same room - imagine you want to do a camera pan with your phone around a piece of floor with some texture on it

The speed of detection unfortunately on Android depends on a lot of factors, not the least of them being that devices have widely varying cameras and sensors

On iOS it’s typically much faster / better calibrated

I’ll give it a shot, luckily this bulb I use has temperature control so I can try to how it affect the capture

Should I try on an ipad air then?

You can try it, but you’ll need the WebXR Viewer browser from Mozilla to use WebXR on iOS

I run a pretty underpowered Samsung (one of the most common models here in my college area in India) I did consider if that was a factor

I’ll look into it

Generally it should work (as you can see) but yes, specs do have some effect especially on tracking speed and quality

Which model is it exactly?

M31 from 2020ish

SparkAR and snap filter that use AR work just fine on it but I can see how it might lag here

by user 392979063620501504

I see. Yeah that’s pretty much from the 1st or 2nd generation of cheaper phones that support AR. But with better lighting and maybe a bit of practice for how to move the phone you’ll get it to work :slightly_smiling_face:

Hmm yeah, I’ll give it a shot, would be great material to fill up for college documentation ig

Do let me know how the rest of the queries work, looking forward to building some really cool prototypes going forward
