License Check Problem

Hi  :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m recently experiencing a repeated issue whereby the licence status isn’t being sustainably recognised. Quite frequently the status of the licence will be acknowledged as being valid, then a few minutes later (usually when I attempt to preview a scene locally via ā€˜Play/Open Server’) the valid licence status will be ā€˜forgotten’ and I find I’m unable to run the preview (there’s just a grey screen).

When I go to re-enter the licence info the relevant status check doesn’t seem to happen. It just shows that it’s ā€˜waiting’ (see pic) but that process often doesn’t get anywhere, and when it does it often takes a long, long time.

I’m not working on anything deadline-driven at the moment, so it’s genuinely not a deal-breaker at this end… but I thought I’d flag it up now, so that hopefully at some point a fix can be made or a workaround suggested :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi, thanks for the report. That sounds odd, i havent seen this before - we will look into it.

You are on OSX, right?

Yep… Mac OS Ventura 13.6.

Can’t update to Sonoma. Apparently my 2018 i7 is too old already. Apple, eh  :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:  :grimacing:

I get a similar bug where every once and awhile when I save a scene I’m told my ā€œtrial has expiredā€. Simply opening the Needle Settings and letting it refresh will make it go away. Sounds like it might be related.

Hi, thanks again for the report. I’m looking into that right now and might have found the cause of the problem

Cheeeeeeeeeeeeers! The latest release (v 3.20.1) has nailed it :sunglasses: :star_struck: :raised_hands: :rocket:

Doh. Spoke too soon… sadly, the problem still exists for me here.

The problem re-manifested itself as soon as I saved and tried preview the project after I’d been working on it for a few minutes first thing this morning.

The latest update did fix the problem initially, but sometime during the night (while I wasn’t working on the project) the valid licence status became unrecognised/forgotten again… and, once again, the ā€˜waiting for licence check…’ process doesn’t seem to get anywhere.

If I run ā€˜Install’, that seems to clear the problem and everything runs fine… until the next time I go to save/preview the project, whereupon the problem exists again.

Obviously ā€˜installing’ each time I need to preview any changes I’ve made isn’t ideal as it’s a fairly lengthy process to have to undertake .

Thanks for the detailed description @frannie

When you re-export your project (Clicking Play) it doesnt fix the issue?

Hi @Marcel_Wiessler1 :cactus: Nope, sadly it doesn’t. I’ve just double-checked and no joy just doing that.

As said, running ā€˜Install’ fixes things every single time :slightly_smiling_face: :+1: … but it’s just a bit of an over-the-top workaround :grimacing:

It’s probably also worth me mentioning, that occasionally if ā€˜waiting for licence check…’ is left running for long enough it does sometimes activate things as expected.

It happened here just now. The valid status confirmation suddenly appeared, after the check had been running for circa 40 minutes or so.

Hello @frannie  could you try again with the latest version. I’ve also added some buttons to the license check UI to be able to explicitly perform a refresh.

Hi @Marcel_Wiessler1 :cactus: … huge apologies for the delay in getting the following feedback to you. I spotted and installed the latest release earlier today but Discord has only just now displayed your request :point_up_2: at this end.

Anyway… onwards to business… :slightly_smiling_face:

Okay, so, first of all, for some reason the install of the latest update took a couple of go’s before it was properly affected (I haven’t experienced that before - the updates have always installed just fine). The update panel indicated that the install had been performed, but the export info said it hadn’t (see 00.jpg).

After trying a few things I eventually decided to quit out of Unity and restart… whereupon everything seemed to be working perfectly. The update was recognised and so was the licence status  :+1: (see 01.jpg).

Just one thing… I couldn’t see any obvious UI for refreshing the licence check if needed, but maybe I’m not looking in the right place?

Either way, it’s all running fine here now. Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeers! :grinning: :raised_hands:
